Thank you, Cambridge. Thank you for your support, your contributions, your help, your vote, and what you will do to help our city be an even better place to live. Thank you also for those who did not vote for me, I want and need to hear from you and to have your support for what our city council, city manager, and police chief want to do to improve our community. I am saddened that on such an important day as this election we had another gun death here. I do not know any of the details at this point, but our community needs to become more proactive in the right kind of way to find ways to prevent these kinds of events. I know that our police department and the Maryland State Police will do what they do very well in investigating this recent event and finding anyone who may have been involved. While our thoughts and prayers are important for the family and loved ones of the person who died, finding solutions to prevent future such events are also important. Let's work together to make that happen. Steve ... See MoreSee Less

Let's talk about issues facing Cambridge and what some of my ideas are. > Remember that the Mayor cannot make anything happen unless the community supports it and city council, the city manager, and police chief implement it.>Crime - Not enough police. What do we do while we try to hire new ones? Some short-term solutions could be: 1. Even more collaboration by the Cambridge Police with the Sheriff and Maryland State Police during high crime times and locations in town. 2. Increase community trust by hiring a crime victim witness advocate who is not a police officer to follow up with crime victims and get to know the community. If people were charged, S/he would also go to court - Circuit and District - to support the victims and witnesses. 3. Provide additional training to the police on evidence gathering such as admissions against interest by perpetrators or excited utterances by alleged victims that would be admissible in court.
